CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) — Local high school students were in court Saturday but they weren't in trouble. It was all part of the Idaho High School Mock Trial Regional Competition.
Ten teams from eight high schools took part in the competition at the Canyon County Courthouse in Caldwell.
The schools include:
- The Ambrose School
- Capital High School
- Centennial High School
- Idaho Arts Charter School
- Mountain Home High School
- The One Stone School
- Payette High School
- Timberline High School
Organizers say it's a great way for the kids to learn about the legal system and explore careers in law.
"I think it's great. You know once you get to see this you'll realize these kids put a lot of work into this," says organizer Carey Shoufler. "The case is 80 pages of witness statements and exhibits that they have to (sort) through and figure out how they're going to try the case."
In two weeks there is a state competition in Boise. In mid may the best of the best will compete in the National Mock Trial Championship in Reno.
